Piano Teacher Position — A Piano Grows in Brooklyn ($60/hr)

A Piano Grows in Brooklyn is seeking a sixth piano teacher to join our team. We provide a steady stream of new student inquiries, long-term families, and full administrative support. Teachers focus on teaching; we handle scheduling, billing, and materials.

Compensation & Hours

  • $60/hr

  • 10–25 hours/week, depending on your preference

  • Lessons assigned over your first 1–4 months as new requests come in

  • Long-term opportunity for teachers who want a larger roster

The Job

You’ll teach in-home piano lessons at student residences across Brooklyn. Lessons are geographically grouped to minimize travel. Students include kids, teens, and adults. Styles vary: classical, pop, jazz basics, improvisation, and playing by ear.

Skills & Experience

  • Confident piano skills suitable for teaching beginner–intermediate levels

  • Can read sheet music, teach chord charts, and explain music theory

  • Comfortable teaching outside classical repertoire

  • Able to transpose simple songs and pick up tunes quickly

  • Some prior teaching experience

Personal Qualities

  • Warm with families; comfortable teaching kids (ages 5+)

  • Clear communicator; responds reliably to texts/emails

  • Comfortable using Google Docs

  • Plans to live in NYC for at least the next year

Logistics

  • Willing to travel to areas such as:
    Downtown Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick, Park Slope, Bed-Stuy, Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, and nearby neighborhoods.

  • Optional: If you have access to a space where you can teach some lessons, mention it.
